Shamayita Math has been associated with the community of Kadaroad Gamon Colony, an urban slum of Durgapur for past two years. As a slum, the community is densely populated and the women of the locality are distressed, underprivileged. In 2018-2019, Shamayita Math got engaged in the CSR activities of Durgapur Cement Plant located just adjacent to Kadaroad and since then organization’s professionals have been closely associated with the women of Kadaroad area. Since then, a demand was noticed among these underprivileged women for their socio-economic development. Presently 50 women from Kadaroad are undergoing training on tailoring and embroidery – their goal is to free themselves from the monotonous life and gain some skill through which they can earn both money and self pride, self esteem and self respect.
In this critical period of covid pandemic, these women who are basically home makers are under stress – as majority of their husbands are daily wage earners and lost their jobs. The tailoring training had to be stopped, which made these women more frustrated. As their leisure and pleasure times during training along with the earning opportunity were unavailable to them. Shamayita Math with the support of Durgapur Cement Plant provided all the 50 women a kit of dry ration containing rice, pulses, spices, biscuit, cooking oil, soap. The women, with a smile, were proud to carry home a bag full of dry ration, which they received in response to their request for support before Shamayita Math.
