Shamayita Math, like every year, celebrated Kherwal Tukou – the legendary tribal festival on 31 December 2021 and 1st January 2022 in village Shiulibona- the adopted village of Shamayita Math, located at the foothills of Susunia Hills in Chhatna district of Bankura. Promotion and preservation of cultural heritage is the sole objective of the festival.
Day 1 was celebrated through a tribal dance competition, where nine teams from Bankura and Purulia participated. Apart from the top three rank holders, cash prizes were also given to the team having best costume and best musical instruments. The best performer was given a chance to present the group dance on the main festival day (1st January 2022), that is Day 2. Also blankets/rags were distributed to 250 old men & women from neighbouring villages. First January 2022, started with group tribal dance in the open air festival ground, where more than 300 tribal women along with interested ones from the audience participated. The day was celebrated through colourful costume, melodious tune, rhythmic folk music and dance from Purulia , Burdwan , Bankura districts of West Bengal and Sambhalpuri dance from Odisha.Thousands of participants enjoyed the picturesque festival and the diverse traditions ad myriad cultures of the tribal community.
